How to Pin Posts and Comments on Instagram
Instagram’s steps for pinned posts, what we know about pinned comments, and how to use both to turn profile visitors into customers.
In short: to pin a post, open it from your profile, tap Options (⋯) and tap Pin to main grid. Instagram lets you pin up to 3 posts; unpinning returns a post to its original spot. Pinned comments keep a comment at the top of your own post; Instagram hasn’t published steps or a limit in its Help Center, and up to 3 is commonly reported.

How to pin a post to your Instagram profile
Instagram’s steps for iPhone and Android (Pin a post to the top of your profile):
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
- Tap the post you want to pin, then tap Options (⋯) in the top right.
- Tap Pin to main grid.
Instagram says you can pin up to 3 posts, and pinned posts can be removed from the top of your profile at any time. The Help Center lists the same steps for the iPad app.
How to unpin a post
- Go to your profile and tap the pinned post.
- Tap Options (⋯) in the top right.
- Tap Unpin from main grid.
Instagram says the post then returns to its original spot in your grid, by date (Pin a post to the top of your profile). Nothing is deleted, and likes and comments stay. If you already have 3 pinned posts and want to pin a new one, unpin one first.
What to pin: ideas for businesses
Your three pinned posts are the first thing a new visitor sees under your bio. Think of them as a shop window. Our suggestions:
- Who you are: a short reel introducing the business, the team or the founder.
- Proof: a customer review, before-and-after or case study carousel.
- How to buy: prices, a menu, booking steps or delivery areas.
- Current offer: a sale, launch or event, unpinned when it ends.
- Your best performer: check Insights for the post with the most reach or saves (see our Instagram Insights guide).

How to pin a comment on Instagram
Instagram announced pinned comments on its official blog as a way to “set the tone” for your account by pinning “a select number of comments to the top of” a comment thread (Instagram blog, May 2020). The Help Center doesn’t publish step-by-step instructions, so the steps below are commonly reported and may differ by app version:
- Open one of your own posts or reels and tap the comment icon.
- On iPhone, swipe left on the comment; on Android, tap and hold it.
- Tap the pin icon, then confirm.
The pinned comment moves to the top with a “Pinned” label. To unpin, repeat the steps and tap the pin icon again. The limit is commonly reported as up to 3 comments per post; Instagram hasn’t published a number in its Help Center. You can only pin comments on your own posts, not on other people’s.
Good comments to pin
- A customer’s praise or question that shows the product working.
- Your own answer to the most common question, such as price, sizes or delivery, so people don’t ask again.
- A correction or update if details in the caption changed.
- The next step, for example “Booking link in bio” or “Reply ‘menu’ and we’ll send it”.

Pinning and comment management
Pinning brings good comments to the top. For the rest, Instagram has official tools (Manage multiple comments on your Instagram posts):
- Open Comments below your post, tap Options, then Select multiple comments.
- Choose to hide, delete (up to 25 at a time) or block the accounts behind them.
- To restrict an account, tap and hold one of its comments and tap Restrict.
- Tap Comment controls to turn off comments or manage comment filters.

- Spam and abuse handled with hide, delete, restrict or block, not just buried.
