How to use the Instagram bio generator
- Say what you do and for whom. “Bakery for busy families” beats “food lover”. Specific words tell visitors in one second whether your account is for them.
- Add a location if you serve local customers. People often check the city before they follow or message a local business.
- Pick a tone and one call to action. Choose what you want a new visitor to do next: send a DM, book, shop, visit or follow.
- Edit and check the count. Press Edit on the idea you like, add a real detail (a speciality, opening year, delivery area) and keep an eye on the 150-character counter.
- Copy it into Instagram. Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, paste into Bio and save. Check it on your phone: line breaks and emoji can look different on different devices.
The three-line bio formula
Most bios that work follow the same shape. You have only 150 characters, so every line has one job:
| Line | Job | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Who and what | What you do, for whom, and where | “Family bakery in Leeds” |
| 2. Why you | One honest reason to choose you | “Sourdough baked every morning” |
| 3. Next step | A single call to action | “Order for collection below 👇” |
Line 2 should be something you can stand behind. Avoid claims like “No. 1” or “award-winning” unless they are true and you can show the proof.
Bio examples by niche
- Dental clinic: “Family dental clinic in Toronto · Gentle care for nervous patients · Book a check-up below”
- Fitness coach: “Strength coaching for women over 40 · Online and in person · DM ‘START’ for a free call”
- Restaurant: “Neapolitan pizza in Dubai Marina · Wood-fired, open late · Reserve via the link”
- B2B consultant: “I help SaaS teams fix onboarding · Weekly tips on activation · Newsletter below”
- Online shop: “Handmade candles from Bhopal · Ships worldwide · Shop the latest below”
Notice what is missing: no long lists of services, no wall of hashtags, no styled text over the important words. If you want a decorative touch, style one short phrase with our Instagram fonts generator and keep the searchable words plain.
Name field vs bio
Your name field (shown in bold above the bio) is separate from your username and is a good place for your brand plus a keyword, for example “Crumbs | Bakery Leeds”. Do not repeat the same words in the bio; use the bio for the reason to choose you and the next step.

Links, buttons and highlights
Instagram shows the links you add in Edit profile under your bio, so you do not need to paste a long URL into the bio text. Business and creator accounts can also show contact or booking buttons. Use your call-to-action line to point to whichever you rely on most, and support it with Story Highlights such as “Menu”, “Prices”, “Reviews” and “How to book”.
Why the counter may differ from Instagram
This tool counts characters the way people see them, so a family emoji or a flag counts as one. Some apps count by the code units underneath, and then certain emoji and styled letters count as two or more. The counter warns you when that could push you over the limit. If Instagram says your bio is too long, remove an emoji or a styled letter first. You can also paste any text into the social media character counter.
Before you polish the profile, make sure it is secure: turn on two-factor authentication and save your backup codes. Our independent guides to Instagram login problems and hacked account recovery walk through Instagram’s official steps (we are not affiliated with Instagram or Meta).

A good bio is the start; regular, useful content is what keeps people following. Instagram Bio Generator FAQ
How long can an Instagram bio be?
Up to 150 characters, according to Instagram’s Help Center. Line breaks and spaces count too. Some emoji and styled letters can count as more than one character, so leave a small buffer if your bio is close to the limit.
What should I put in my Instagram bio?
Three things in this order: what you do and for whom, one reason to choose you, and the one action you want visitors to take. Add your location if you serve local customers. Keep your business type and city in plain words so people searching for them can find you.
Should I use emoji in my bio?
One to three emoji can make a bio easier to scan, for example at the start of each line or before your call to action. Use none or very few for professional, legal, medical or luxury brands. Do not replace important words with emoji, because screen readers read them by their names.
How do I add line breaks to my Instagram bio?
Type or paste your bio with line breaks in Edit profile in the Instagram app. Copying a bio from this generator keeps its line breaks. If the line breaks disappear on your device, write the bio in your phone’s notes app first and paste it from there.
What is a good call to action for an Instagram bio?
Match it to how people buy from you: “DM us to book” for services, “Shop below” for online stores, “Visit us in [area]” for local shops and “Follow for weekly tips” for creators. Pick one; a bio with four requests gets none of them.
Is this an AI bio generator? Is my information saved?
No and no. It combines hand-written lines by tone and call to action in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored.
