How to Get Verified on Instagram: The Two Official Routes

Meta Verified subscriptions and the free notability request explained from Instagram’s and Meta’s own Help Center pages. We can’t get anyone verified, and nobody else can sell you a badge.

In short: there are two official routes to Instagram’s verified badge. Subscribe to Meta Verified, which needs a government ID, an eligible country and minimum account activity, or request verification in the Instagram app if you are a notable public figure, celebrity or brand whose account is authentic, unique, complete and covered by multiple news sources. Instagram reviews requests within up to 30 days and doesn’t guarantee approval. No agency, including us, can get you verified.

Read this first: nobody can sell you a blue badge

Independent guide. We can’t get anyone verified. Viral In City is an independent social media agency, not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Instagram or Meta. Only Instagram decides who gets a verified badge. We don’t sell verification, we don’t have a “contact at Meta”, and anyone who promises a badge for a fee is not telling the truth.

Instagram is clear on this. Its Help Center page on what happens when you apply for a verified badge says Instagram may remove a badge or disable an account that attempts to verify through a third party, or that advertises, transfers or sells a verified badge. Instagram has also said it never requests payment for the notable verified badge (Instagram announcement).

What follows is how verification really works today, taken from Instagram’s and Meta’s own Help Center pages, so you can decide which route fits you. We checked every page on 6 October 2026; Meta updates them often, so confirm details at the links before you apply or subscribe.

Two ways to get the verified badge

Instagram’s page on requirements to apply for a verified badge says there are two ways to get it:

Summary of Instagram and Meta Help Center pages linked in this guide. We don’t list prices because Meta shows them in the app and they vary by country and plan.

Route 1: Meta Verified for creators

Meta’s Help Center describes Meta Verified for creators as a paid subscription that can include a verified badge, impersonation protection, enhanced support and other features. Meta lists several plan levels, and the benefits vary by region.

Key points from that page and Meta’s eligibility requirements:

  • Eligible profiles: Instagram personal or creator accounts and Facebook personal or creator profiles. Instagram business accounts use the separate Meta Verified for businesses.
  • Age and location: you must meet the minimum age requirement (18, or the age of majority where you live) and be in a country where Meta Verified is available.
  • Identity: you need a government-issued photo ID. Instagram lists accepted documents on its ID requirements page.
  • Activity: your account must meet minimum activity requirements and follow Meta’s terms and Community Standards.
  • Security: Meta says Advanced Protection is required while you subscribe and can’t be turned off while the subscription is active. Learn about it on Instagram’s Advanced Protection page.
  • Review and billing: Meta says review can take up to 3 business days. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel.

To start, follow the subscribe steps on Meta’s Meta Verified page. The price and benefits for your country are shown before you confirm. Finalise your profile name and photo first, so they match your ID.

Route 1b: Meta Verified for businesses

Instagram’s page on verifying your professional account describes Meta Verified for businesses as a paid subscription with the verified badge, enhanced support, impersonation protection and more. It is the option for business accounts, which can’t use the creator plan.

Business eligibility and plan details differ from the creator version and are set out in Meta’s business Help Center.

A badge doesn’t replace good basics. Instagram’s same page suggests other ways to show authenticity: a clear bio, behind-the-scenes Stories and encouraging customers to tag you.

Route 2: Request verification based on notability

If you are a public figure, celebrity or brand, you can request the badge without subscribing. Instagram’s requirements page says your account must be:

  • Authentic: it represents a real person, registered business or entity.
  • Unique: it is the only presence of that person or business. Only one account per person or business can be verified, with exceptions for language-specific accounts. General-interest accounts, such as meme pages, aren’t verified.
  • Complete: public, with a bio, a profile photo and recent activity.
  • Notable: it represents a well-known, highly searched person, brand or entity, featured in multiple news sources. Instagram says it doesn’t consider paid or promotional content as a news source.

How to request (Instagram app only). Instagram’s help page describes it for professional accounts as: go to your profile, tap Menu, select Professional dashboard, then Settings, scroll down and tap Request verification, complete the form and submit. Depending on your account type and app version the option may sit under Account type and tools or a similar menu.

Instagram says submitting a request doesn’t guarantee verification.

What happens after you apply

From Instagram’s page on what happens when you apply:

  • You’ll get a notification in Activity within up to 30 days saying whether the account was verified.
  • If the request is denied, you can apply again after 30 days. Applying several times before you get a decision cancels your application.
  • Instagram can remove badges at any time, for example if you advertise, transfer or sell the badge, use your profile to promote services that break its rules, try to verify through a third party, or switch between public and private too often.
  • Giving false or misleading information means the badge is removed and the account may be disabled.

Instagram’s requirements page also notes that once an account is verified, you can’t change its username. Pick the handle you want to keep before you apply.

How to build a stronger notability case

If you were turned down, the most common gap is notability. These are legitimate ways to strengthen it over time:

  • Earn independent press. Interviews, reviews and news coverage in established publications. Paid articles and sponsored posts don’t count, per Instagram.
  • Be consistent everywhere. Use the same name, photo and handle across your website and other social profiles, and link to your Instagram from your official website, as Instagram suggests.
  • Complete your profile. Clear bio, real photo or logo, public account, regular posts.
  • Grow real demand. Notability shows up when people search for you. Focus on content and work that gets you talked about; see our guide on getting more Instagram followers organically.

Our free Instagram bio generator helps you write a clear, complete bio. Keep styled text from our fonts generator out of your name field if you plan to apply, because your profile name should match your ID or business name.

Watch out for verification scams

Fake “verification” offers are a common way accounts get hacked. Be suspicious of any DM, email or comment that:

  • offers a blue badge for a fee, “guaranteed”;
  • asks for your password, login code or backup codes;
  • sends a link to a form that isn’t on instagram.com, facebook.com or meta.com;
  • threatens that your account will be deleted unless you “verify” quickly.

Meta Verified is bought inside Meta’s official apps, and the notability request is a form inside the Instagram app. If you have already shared login details, follow our hacked Instagram account recovery guide and see fixes for Instagram login problems.

Which route should you choose?

A quick way to decide:

  • You are a creator or professional who wants the badge and account protection now: Meta Verified for creators, if you meet the eligibility rules and the price in your country makes sense.
  • You run a business account: Meta Verified for businesses, or keep improving your profile and reputation.
  • You are a widely covered public figure, celebrity or well-known brand: request verification for free based on notability.
  • You are neither yet: focus on reputation, press and a complete profile, and revisit later. A badge alone won’t bring followers or customers.

The two routes aren’t mutually exclusive. Instagram says that if you already have a verified badge based on earlier requirements, you can still subscribe to Meta Verified for its other features.

Prepare before you apply: a checklist

  • Account is public, with a profile photo, bio and recent posts.
  • Profile name matches your legal or business name, without decorative fonts or emojis.
  • You have chosen the username you want to keep, because it can’t be changed once verified.
  • Two-factor authentication is on. Meta Verified also requires Advanced Protection.
  • Your government ID (or business documents) is valid and readable.
  • For notability: a list of independent news articles about you, not paid or sponsored content.
  • Your website and other official profiles link to your Instagram account.
  • You have no pending request; applying again before a decision cancels it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Viral In City get my Instagram account verified?

No. Only Instagram decides who is verified, and Instagram says it may remove the badge or disable accounts that try to verify through a third party. We can help with your profile and content, not the badge itself.

Is Meta Verified worth it?

It depends on whether you value the badge plus features such as impersonation protection and enhanced support. Check the current price and benefits for your country in the app before subscribing; it renews automatically.

How many followers do I need to get verified on Instagram?

Instagram doesn’t publish a follower threshold. For the notability route it looks at whether you are well known and covered by multiple news sources. Meta Verified has activity and identity requirements instead.

Can a business account get Meta Verified?

Yes, through Meta Verified for businesses. The creator subscription is for Instagram personal or creator accounts and Facebook profiles.

How long does Instagram verification take?

Instagram says you’ll get a decision in Activity within up to 30 days of a notability request. Meta says Meta Verified reviews can take up to 3 business days.

I was denied. When can I apply again?

Instagram says you can submit a new request after 30 days. Applying again before you get a decision cancels the application.

Can I change my username after verification?

Instagram’s requirements page says you can’t change the username of a verified account, so choose your handle before applying.

Does a verified badge increase reach?

Instagram doesn’t say the badge itself increases reach. It confirms authenticity; growth still depends on your content and audience.
