Content Calendar Generator
Choose your niche, platforms and posts per week. Get a 30-day plan with a post idea, hook, format and how-to note for every slot, then export it to a spreadsheet or your calendar.
Enter your business type, tick the platforms you use and choose how many posts a week you can manage. The generator spreads posts across 30 days, rotates five content pillars (educate, behind the scenes, proof, community, promote) and gives each post a format, idea, hook and production note. Download it as a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets, or as an ICS file for Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.

How to use the content calendar generator
- Describe your business. The generator recognises common niches (restaurants, clinics, gyms, salons, real estate, coaches, software, shops and more) and adapts the ideas. For anything else it writes general ideas around your words.
- Tick your platforms. Each platform gets formats that suit it: Reels and carousels on Instagram, text posts and document carousels on LinkedIn, Shorts and long-form videos on YouTube.
- Choose posts per week. The number applies to each platform. Three a week posts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; five a week covers weekdays.
- Pick a start date and review the plan week by week. Press “Shuffle ideas” for a fresh mix.
- Export. Download the CSV to edit and track in a spreadsheet, or the ICS file to see every post in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
The five content pillars
| Pillar | Share of posts | Why it matters | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Educate | About 3 in 10 | Gives people a reason to follow and save | Tips, myths, how to choose, common questions |
| Behind the scenes | About 2 in 10 | Builds familiarity and trust in the people behind the brand | Process videos, team intros, a day in the life |
| Proof & results | About 2 in 10 | Shows that what you offer works | Before and after, case studies, reviews (with permission) |
| Community | About 1 in 10 | Starts conversations and gives you ideas | Polls, this-or-that, answering comments |
| Promote | About 2 in 10 | Turns attention into enquiries and sales | Offers, how to book, what is included |
The mix is a starting point, not a rule. A shop in a busy sales season might promote more; a consultant building authority might educate more.
Turning the plan into posts
- Batch by format. Film all the week’s videos in one session and design all the carousels in another. Switching tasks is what eats time.
- Write the hook first. Each slot has a hook line. If you cannot make the first line interesting, change the idea before you film.
- Repurpose across platforms. One video can become a Reel, a YouTube Short and a TikTok; a carousel can become a LinkedIn document post. Adjust captions for each audience.
- Add the details only you know. Real prices, dates, customer stories (with permission) and photos of your actual team beat any template.
- Use the right tools. Write captions with the Instagram caption generator, find more video angles with the Reels and Shorts ideas generator, add up to 5 hashtags per Instagram post with the hashtag generator, and size images with the image size guide.
Importing the files
The CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers, with columns for date, day, platform, format, pillar, idea, hook, production notes and status. The ICS file follows the iCalendar standard (RFC 5545) and creates one all-day event per post, so it does not block time in your schedule. We suggest importing it into a new, separate calendar called “Content” so you can share it with your team or remove it in one step.
When to review the calendar
Give each month a short review: which posts brought comments, saves, shares, profile visits or enquiries? Repeat those formats and topics next month and drop what did not work. Check your Instagram results with the engagement rate calculator, comparing against your own past posts rather than other accounts.
To choose posting times for the calendar, use your own audience data: our guide to the best time to post on Instagram explains Insights’ most active times and a simple four-week test.
Planning LinkedIn too? Our guide to the best time to post on LinkedIn shows how to use LinkedIn analytics and a simple test instead of universal “best times”.
Ready to publish the plan? Our guide on how to schedule Instagram posts covers the Instagram app and Meta Business Suite, with Instagram’s own limits.

Content Calendar Generator FAQ
What is a social media content calendar?
A schedule of what you will post, where and when: date, platform, format (for example Reel, carousel or text post), topic and the main message. It turns “what should we post today?” into a list you can batch, film and schedule in advance.
How many times a week should I post?
There is no universal number. Pick a frequency you can keep up for months, because consistency matters more than volume. For many small businesses that is three to five posts a week on their main platform and fewer on secondary ones. Use your own analytics to adjust after a month.
What are content pillars?
Content pillars are the few recurring themes your posts rotate through. This generator uses five: educate (tips and answers), behind the scenes, proof and results, community (questions and polls) and promote (offers and how to buy). Rotating them keeps your feed useful and stops it from feeling like constant advertising.
How do I import the calendar into Google Calendar or Outlook?
Download the ICS file, then import it: in Google Calendar go to Settings → Import & export → Import; in Outlook choose Add calendar → Upload from file; on a Mac, open the file with Calendar. Each post becomes an all-day event with the idea, hook and production notes in the description. Import it into a separate calendar so you can hide or delete it in one go.
Can I edit the plan in Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Download the CSV and open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. It includes a Status column you can use to track each post from “To do” to “Published”.
Is my plan saved anywhere?
No. The plan is generated in your browser and the files are created on your device. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored, so download the CSV or ICS before you close the page.
