1. Profiles
- Same name, logo and handle across platforms where possible.
- Bio says what you do, for whom and where.
- Working link, contact button and opening hours.
- Pinned posts or highlights answering first-time questions.
2. Content performance
- Export the last 90 days of posts with reach, saves, shares, comments and clicks.
- List the top five and bottom five posts and what they have in common.
- Compare formats: Reels or Shorts, carousels, single images, text.
- Check posting consistency: gaps of more than a week are a warning sign.
3. Audience
- Top cities and countries versus where your customers really are.
- Age and gender mix versus your buyer.
- When followers are active (see our posting times guide).
4. Competitors
- Pick three accounts your customers would compare you with.
- Note their formats, frequency and the posts that get conversation.
- Look for gaps they are not covering.
5. Access and security
- List everyone with admin access and remove those who no longer need it (Give a partner access to business assets in your business portfolio; LinkedIn Page admin roles; Add or remove access to your YouTube channel with channel permissions).
- Turn on two-factor authentication (Securing your Meta account with two-factor authentication).
- Make sure the business, not an individual, owns each asset.
6. Compliance
- Paid or gifted posts are clearly labelled (Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers; Influencers' guide to making clear that ads are ads).
- No reviews or testimonials you cannot back up (The Consumer Reviews and Testimonials Rule: Questions and Answers).
- Claims in your industry are approved by the right person.
7. Turn findings into a plan
Choose no more than three changes for the next month, such as one new format, one profile fix and one posting-time test. Measure them in a monthly report.
