How to Make Money on Facebook

Meta’s current monetization programs and their requirements, what ended in 2025, and the other ways Pages and creators earn on Facebook.

In short: use a Page or a profile in pro mode and follow Meta’s Partner and Content Monetization Policies. Facebook Content Monetization (earnings from reels, photos, stories and text posts) is invite-only. Stars need 500 followers for 30 consecutive days and pay 1 cent per Star. Subscriptions need 5,000 followers. In-stream ads, Ads on Reels and the Performance bonus ended on 31 August 2025. Brand deals need the paid partnership label.

The honest answer first

Independent guide. Viral In City is an independent social media agency. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Instagram or Meta. Every rule quoted below comes from Instagram’s or Meta’s own Help Center or official blog, linked so you can check it at the source. Platforms change features often, so confirm details on the linked pages.

You can earn on Facebook in two ways: Meta’s monetization programs (Content Monetization, Stars and Subscriptions) and money from outside Facebook (brand deals, affiliate links and selling your own products or services).

The programs changed in 2025. Meta says In-stream ads, Ads on Reels and the Performance bonus program ended on 31 August 2025, and eligible creators are being invited to the new Facebook Content Monetization program instead (Meta Business Help). Many older articles still describe the retired programs.

We don’t quote “earnings per 1,000 views” or similar averages, because Meta doesn’t publish reliable figures for them.

Requirements from Meta Business Help and Facebook for Creators, checked 6 October 2026. Availability depends on your country and changes over time.

Step 1: Use a Page or pro mode

Meta’s Partner Monetization Policies apply to Pages, profiles in professional mode, events and groups. Profiles that aren’t in professional mode can’t use monetization products.

  • Business, brand or team: use a Facebook Page.
  • Individual creator growing from a personal profile: turn on pro mode.

Step 2: Meet the rules for every program

To earn money on Facebook you must pass and keep passing the Partner Monetization Policies and the Content Monetization Policies, follow the Community Standards, and live in a country where the feature is available. Financial accounts connected to you must be in an eligible country too (Partner Monetization Policies).

Check your status: on a computer, go to Meta Business Suite, click Monetization and then View Page eligibility. On mobile, use the Professional dashboard (How to check your monetization eligibility). It shows any violations that affect monetization.

Facebook Content Monetization

Facebook Content Monetization lets you earn from the performance of eligible public reels, photos, stories and text posts, in one program (Meta Business Help).

  • It’s invite-only for now. Invitations come through official channels: the Facebook app, email, Meta Business Suite and the Professional dashboard.
  • You can express interest: in your dashboard, find the Monetization tab and click Content Monetization to open the form. Meta says it plans to offer open enrollment in the future (Facebook for Creators).
  • Earnings insights show which posts earn the most.

Beware of scams: invitations never come from random messages or people asking for your password or a fee. If in doubt, check your Professional dashboard directly.

Facebook Stars

Fans buy Stars and send them on your Reels, videos, live broadcasts, photos and text posts. Facebook for Creators says you earn 1 cent from Meta for every Star you receive (Facebook for Creators).

To earn from Stars you must (Meta Business Help):

  • Have 500 followers for at least 30 consecutive days.
  • Be at least 18 and live in a country where Stars is available.
  • Meet the Community Standards and the Partner and Content Monetization Policies.
  • Agree to the Stars Terms and Conditions.

Accounts that mainly post content focused on children aren’t eligible. Check eligibility in Meta Business Suite (Monetization, then View Page eligibility) or, for pro mode, under Stars in the Professional dashboard.

Facebook Subscriptions

Subscriptions let your biggest fans pay monthly for benefits such as exclusive posts, stories and reels, a subscriber-only group, subscriber-only live videos, custom stickers and discount codes. Subscribers also get a badge next to their name (About Facebook Subscriptions).

Requirements:

  • A Page or profile in pro mode with 5,000 or more followers.
  • Meet the Partner Monetization Policies and agree to the Fan Subscription Creator Terms.
  • Be at least 18; for a Page, every admin must be at least 18.
  • Live in a country where Subscriptions is available.

Revenue: Meta says it won’t take fees from Subscriptions through the end of 2026. For purchases made on the web you receive 100% of the price after taxes and fees; for purchases through Apple or Google in the mobile apps you receive 70%, because the app store takes 30%.

Brand deals and the paid partnership label

For many Pages, brand partnerships pay more than platform programs. Meta’s rules (About branded content):

  • Branded content is content you post in exchange for something of value from a brand, including free products.
  • You must tag the business partner, which shows a Paid partnership with label.
  • Content with an affiliate link should have the Paid partnership label but doesn’t need a business partner tagged.
  • Brands pay creators off the platform; Meta doesn’t handle these payments.

Set a simple rate card, keep a media kit with your real Page insights, and put every deal in writing.

Sell your own products and services

For businesses, the biggest Facebook income usually comes from customers, not payouts. Use your Page to drive enquiries and sales:

  • Add a clear action button (Message, Call, Book or Shop) and keep contact details current.
  • Post Reels that show your product or service working, with a call to action.
  • Reply to messages quickly; many purchases start in Messenger.
  • Promote offers to your followers and run ads when you have a proven offer.

A realistic plan to start earning

  1. Set up properly: a Page or pro mode, complete profile, two-factor authentication.
  2. Post original content consistently, led by Reels. Meta’s monetization pages stress original content.
  3. Reach 500 followers and turn on Stars when eligible.
  4. Express interest in Content Monetization from your dashboard.
  5. Grow to 5,000 followers and test Subscriptions with benefits your fans actually want.
  6. Pitch brand deals with a media kit, and always use the paid partnership label.
